Valtteri Bottas remains "pretty confident" about securing his spot in Formula 1 for the upcoming season as speculation intensifies regarding Colton Herta potentially joining the Cadillac roster. While the American-backed outfit has already locked in Sergio Perez with a contract extension, the veteran Finnish driver's immediate future with the team continues to face intense paddock scrutiny following a challenging debut campaign.
Addressing media inquiries in the paddock, Bottas brushed aside the ongoing speculation surrounding his seat. "I don't really have much to say," Bottas stated when asked about the rumours. "That's the situation, there's rumours. I have nothing really to say. We'll find out eventually." The uncertainty persists despite his initial multi-year agreement, which is understood to feature a team option structure for the second term.
Despite trailing in the intra-team qualifying battle and the team struggling at the rear of the constructors' standings without a point in their maiden year, the 10-time grand prix winner insists the paperwork supports his optimism. "Well, it would make sense to me," he added. "That's what it reads on the paper, so that's why I'm pretty confident. For me, it was always clear who's here for next year. Obviously, Checo made an extension. I haven't made a further extension yet, but I'm sure in a big company there's always board meetings to finalize decisions."

As Cadillac continues its arduous development phase, leaning on veteran feedback to guide early progress, Bottas emphasizes that the long-term project aligns with his initial expectations. "It's all of what I signed up for," he concluded. "Development, working for the future. Sometimes nursing the car home just to make it to the flag. I'm just really waiting for the moment that we get a better car."
