Speculation regarding the Formula 1 future of Valtteri Bottas at Cadillac has intensified during the race weekend at the Circuit of the Americas. Signs of growing uncertainty emerged as Cadillac team principal Marcin Budkowski showered praise on Mexican driver Sergio Perez, while remaining far less enthusiastic when discussing his Finnish teammate.
The situation became even more apparent as the 49-year-old Polish boss refused to officially confirm the Perez-Bottas driver lineup for the 2027 season. This comes despite earlier expectations that the American-backed outfit would comfortably stick with their two seasoned veterans for the upcoming campaigns.
Speaking from Texas, Budkowski openly highlighted the exceptional work ethic displayed by Perez, noting how the experienced driver relentlessly pushes the team forward both on the track and behind closed doors in the debrief rooms.

"For a driver like Checo, who has an enormous amount of experience, I can say that he doesn't behave or drive like a driver who is anywhere near retirement. He pushes very hard on the throttle," Budkowski stated. He further added, "Perez is hungry, he is motivated, and that is really good to see. We have two drivers. One is hotter, and one is probably a little bit cooler, if I may say so."
Meanwhile, the driver market rumor mill has also seen movement from Esteban Ocon's management, who reportedly reached out to Cadillac following the Frenchman's departure from Haas. Responding to the paddock chatter, Budkowski maintained a cautious stance, insisting that any official announcements regarding the team's future lineup will be made when the time is right.
