Toyota have sealed the 2025 WRC manufacturers' title with a dominant one-two finish at Rally Chile, as Oliver Solberg took victory ahead of Sebastien Ogier. The result sees Toyota equal Lancia's all-time record for most manufacturers' championships.
The Japanese manufacturer needed to outscore Hyundai by seven points in Chile to clinch the crown, and they did so in style. With two rounds remaining, Toyota have amassed 614 points, while second-placed Hyundai sit on 410.
“It has been an amazing year for the team and everyone can be proud of this performance. It is a great achievement and it has been fantastic to drive these cars this year. Hats off to everyone,” said Ogier.
The latest title draws Toyota level with Lancia in the all-time standings. Toyota deputy team principal Juha Kankkunen helped the team win its first title as a driver in 1993. The four-time world champion said the decisive factor was not individual performance but teamwork.
“It is the whole team and the work it does. Then there is also the atmosphere between the drivers. They fight over tenths of a second on the stages, but they are good friends away from them.”
Toyota have won 11 of the 12 rallies held this season. Hyundai’s Thierry Neuville won Rally Portugal in the spring. It is also worth noting that although Sami Pajari has won three rounds this season, he has not scored manufacturers’ championship points for Toyota but for Toyota Gazoo Racing WRT2. The “private team” represented by Pajari currently sits third, ahead of M-Sport Ford.
With two rallies left, Toyota can still add to their win tally, but the main objective is achieved: the manufacturers' crown is back in their hands, and history has been written.
