The 20-year-old endured a bruising run of nine consecutive races in Europe without scoring significant points during his debut campaign. Having stepped up directly from a sixth-place finish in Formula 2 with Prema, bypassing the traditional junior team apprenticeship utilized by other major outfits, the young charger faced intense scrutiny as results failed to materialize immediately.
Despite mounting outside pressure, the Brackley-based squad maintained absolute faith in their protege, opting to shield and nurture his raw talent rather than yield to public panic. That patient approach ultimately paid off spectacularly as the prodigy etched his name into the history books.
Reflecting on the monumental success in an interview with Sky Sports F1, the team boss shared his satisfaction. "The week has been good, you realized that we won the championship with a very special young man, and it brought such a positive mindset when waking up in the morning," he stated.
Elaborating on the team's internal philosophy during testing times, the Austrian executive highlighted the significance of trusting internal data over external noise. "What I am particularly proud of is that I don't think he would have lasted in other teams after an F2 season which wasn't overwhelming, and that spell of races without points last year," he noted.
