The qualifying session for the second Walter Hayes Trophy heat delivered an intense battle on the track. Tom Mills emerged as the fastest driver after a fierce contest against his rivals to secure the coveted pole position.
A tight battle unfolded right from the start as drivers traded fast laps to capture the top spot. Rory Smith initially topped the timesheets with a 1m04.994s lap, putting a narrow gap over Mills. However, the order at the front constantly shifted as track conditions and confidence grew.
Moving past the halfway mark of the session, KMR Sport charger Mills improved his pace significantly. He lowered the benchmark to 1m02.149s to reclaim provisional pole, though Smith later fired back with a strong 1m01.923s lap to temporarily steal the initiative.

The fight for the pole reached its climax in the closing minutes of the session. Mills executed a clean and fast run to set a blistering 1m01.506s, sealing the top spot as the checkered flag drew near.
Smith and Luke Cooper pushed hard within the final two minutes, narrowing the gap to 0.117s and 0.275s respectively, but they could not improve further. Smith settled for second with Cooper in third, while Chris Middlehurst and David McArthur rounded out the top five.
