A breathtaking battle unfolded as Tom Mills secured a dramatic victory in the second semi-final of the Walter Hayes Trophy. Driving for KMR Sport, he successfully held off Ammonite Motorsport's Anthony Amato by a razor-thin margin of just 0.036 seconds at the chequered flag.
Tension peaked right from the start as Amato, sharing the front row with Mills, led the pack into Copse for the very first time. B-M Racing's Rory Smith shadowed closely in third ahead of Megan Gilkes. On lap two, a puddle before Maggotts caught Amato out slightly, opening a window of opportunity for Mills to dive past at Becketts with a late braking maneuver.
Tactical battles and fierce wheel-to-wheel combat dominated the mid-race phase. Amato attempted numerous passing moves, but a slip over the wet kerbs at Woodcote allowed Smith to sneak through. As the final lap commenced, Amato launched another fierce attack down the Wellington Straight, yet Mills executed a textbook late defensive braking into Brooklands to fend off the pressure and cross the line first.

Further down the order, KMR's Mikel Bezuidenhout delivered a stellar charge from 27th on the grid to finish in ninth place. Notably, the frontrunners strategically opted to run on used tyres throughout the semi-final, saving their fresh sets for the ultimate showdown in the grand final.
"It was tough. The P2 grid position was wet, so it was going to be hard get off the line. Dropped to second, chased Anthony down and managed to make a nice move into Becketts," Tom Mills told Formula Scout. Amato admitted he maintained strong confidence through the damp conditions, while Smith expressed high optimism for the upcoming final battle.
