Teemu Suninen has announced a change to his co-driver lineup for the final round of the WRC season at Rally Sardinia. Originally entered with Antti Haapala, the Finn will now be joined by Janni Hussi in the co-driver seat. The move comes as a surprise, given that Suninen and Haapala recently clinched the European Rally Championship title this season.

"It has now worked out so that we will get to start another WRC rally this season in Sardinia," Suninen said on Instagram. "We will have the chance to fight for a top-three finish. This means a great deal to us."

The decision was made after Suninen and Hussi impressed in previous WRC2 outings. Despite only contesting four WRC2 rounds this year, Suninen has claimed one victory and three second-place finishes. They currently sit fourth in the WRC2 standings and could leap to second with a strong result in Sardinia, overtaking Roope Korhonen and Yohan Rossel.

"Everything fell into place very quickly, which is why we can only now confirm that Janni will be the co-driver on the entry list," Suninen explained. "We agreed to contest the 2026 WRC season together, and it is great to be able to complete this project together. To be honest, we are quite surprised by how well everything eventually came together and by the support we have received to make this possible."

In Sardinia, Suninen and Hussi will pilot a Toyota Rally2 car run by Italian team Delta Rally. This presents a golden opportunity to end the season on a high note and further strengthen their partnership.

However, Sardinia is expected to be the last rally Suninen and Hussi contest together for now. Hussi will move on to co-drive for Jaspar Vaher, who is part of Toyota's WRC challenge program. Meanwhile, Suninen's future remains uncertain. It recently emerged that he is working as a test driver for the new Project Rally One team set to enter the WRC.

For rally fans, the Suninen-Hussi pairing in Sardinia is a must-watch. The combination of Suninen's gravel experience and Hussi's calm pace-note reading could be key to challenging their rivals. Moreover, the Toyota Rally2 is known for its toughness on rough terrain like Sardinia.

With all the dynamics at play, Rally Sardinia is not just a season finale but also a stage for Suninen and Hussi to prove themselves. Will they end their collaboration with a podium? We'll find out on the stages.
