Lenovo Ducati Team Manager Davide Tardozzi has stepped up to defend Marc Marquez against unfair criticism regarding the grid's mounting anxiety over the upcoming MotoGP trip to Qatar. As the 2026 season nears its conclusion, ongoing geopolitical tensions in the Middle East involving the United States, Israel, and Iran have cast serious shadows over the scheduled event at the Lusail International Circuit.
The regional conflict has already disrupted major motorsport calendars, forcing organizers to scrap the 2027 Dakar Rally in Saudi Arabia. Despite the volatile security climate, MotoGP officials and commercial owner Liberty Media remain adamant about pushing forward with the rescheduled Qatar round for November 6-8, mirroring their stance on Formula 1's final legs in the region.
Such uncertainty naturally sparked a strong backlash inside the paddock. Internal reports revealed that roughly three-quarters of the premier class grid opposed the Middle Eastern swing, culminating in an official meeting at Phillip Island where riders demanded concrete safety assurances from championship organizers before committing to the journey.

All eyes inevitably locked onto Marquez, whose immense influence as a nine-time world champion puts him at the center of paddock politics. His recent friction with series management—including his decision to skip the Motegi karting exhibition and his pushback against proposed 2027 format changes—only intensified media scrutiny surrounding his stance on the Qatari deployment.
Addressing the controversy, Tardozzi clarified that Marquez was merely seeking rightful safety protocols while others opted for silence. As reported by Motorsport.com, Tardozzi emphasized, “Marc has asked for guarantees to go to Qatar, while others stay silent,” highlighting the Spaniard's willingness to voice collective rider concerns openly.
