Japanese manufacturer Honda has officially confirmed the contract extension for Somkiat Chantra, ensuring the Thai rider will remain active with Honda HRC in the FIM Superbike World Championship (WorldSBK) through the 2027 season. This strategic decision secures continuity within the factory squad following encouraging signs of progress from the rider during his debut campaign.
The maiden WorldSBK season for Somkiat Chantra aboard the Honda CBR1000RR-R SP was partially hindered by injury setbacks early on. However, during recent rounds such as the weekend in Cremona, the 27-year-old demonstrated clear performance gains by finishing thirteenth in all three races, repeatedly matching his season-best results.
Further reinforcing his growth, Somkiat Chantra also made a solid impression during a recent MotoGP appearance at Motegi, where he stepped in as a substitute rider for the injured Joan Mir. These collective developments provided Honda HRC with ample reason to maintain their partnership with the Thai talent into 2027.

“I am very happy that I can continue for another season with Honda HRC in WorldSBK,” stated Somkiat Chantra. “This year was a new challenge for me, with a new championship, a new motorcycle, and many new circuits. Step by step I have gained more experience and learned to understand the Honda CBR1000RR-R SP better. I feel that together we still have a lot of potential to improve.”
With this announcement, the Honda HRC rider lineup for the 2027 season is now fully finalized. Somkiat Chantra will once again form a formidable rider pairing alongside Jake Dixon, who had previously secured his agreement for the upcoming racing year.
