The race weekend at the Sepang Circuit left a bitter pill for Francesco Bagnaia after enduring another disappointing result in the main Grand Prix. The factory Ducati rider had to settle for a distant 13th place finish, a stark contrast to his teammate who secured a crucial victory.

Ahead of the event, the Italian rider had described the Malaysian venue as a good opportunity to enjoy racing again, given his historical strength at the circuit. After salvaging sixth place in Saturday's Sprint race thanks to sudden rain, those high hopes vanished when Sunday's dry grand prix exposed severe performance limitations.

The root cause of the struggle centered on catastrophic rear tire wear, a factor that general manager Gigi Dall'Igna also highlighted in team statements. Managing the tire life from the very beginning proved to be an impossible task for the rider carrying the iconic #63.

"I tried from the start to manage the tire performance, but after five laps my rear tire was completely gone," Bagnaia stated. "I had to focus entirely just on managing to finish the race."

This predicament left the double premier-class world champion in absolute shock as he was completely unable to extract any performance from his machine throughout the entire distance. His final lap time plummeted to a dismal 2:05.1, highlighting a massive gap to his usual pace at the venue.

"I could not push properly for a single lap. My last lap was a 2:05.1, which is unbelievable to me because I know what I am actually capable of doing on this track," he concluded.

Looking ahead to the upcoming round in Qatar, the Italian rider's mindset for the remainder of the campaign has shifted drastically toward sheer survival. With security discussions ongoing in the paddock and rival teams prepping for the desert showdown, the focus remains firmly on finding a solution to Ducati's sudden lack of rear grip.
