Sebastien Ogier has revealed he would be open to helping Max Verstappen experience rallying after the two discussed the possibility during the Nürburgring 24 Hours event earlier this year.
The topic emerged as Verstappen continues to show growing interest in motorsport disciplines beyond Formula 1. The nine-time WRC champion even asked the Dutchman directly whether he could see himself following the path of his father, Jos Verstappen, who successfully transitioned into rallying after his Formula 1 career.
When Ogier raised the question on social media, Verstappen responded jokingly by asking whether the Frenchman would be willing to act as his instructor. The exchange later developed into a broader discussion about the possibility of the four-time Formula 1 world champion trying rallying in the future.

"We'll have to discuss it again. Originally it was more of a joke on social media. But he enjoys new experiences and things like that."
Ogier also revealed that the pair had already discussed the subject in person. According to him, Verstappen previously drove his Ford Fiesta Rally, although the experience took place on a circuit rather than in a proper rally environment.
"I told him that if he really wants to try rallying, it should be done in the proper environment. A circuit is obviously not the ideal place for that kind of car."
From Ogier's perspective, Verstappen's ability behind the wheel means a future move into rallying should not be dismissed. He believes the Red Bull Racing driver possesses the talent required to adapt if he ever decides to pursue the discipline seriously.
"My answer was completely honest. If he wants to come and take part in a test, I'd be delighted to welcome him."
Verstappen has repeatedly spoken about his interest in different branches of motorsport. Combined with his father's rally background and his growing connection with Ogier, the prospect of seeing the Formula 1 champion behind the wheel of a rally car no longer seems as unlikely as it once did.
