Racing driver Scott McLaughlin has shared his perspective on the rapid development and soaring popularity of the IndyCar Series over recent years. Since making the switch to American single-seater racing following a successful career in Australia, he has witnessed firsthand how the championship continues to capture the attention of fans worldwide.
The premier open-wheel series now regularly attracts over a million viewers for its race broadcasts. Beyond television ratings, numerous circuits have broken in-person attendance records, proving that the live race day spectacle is drawing massive crowds through the gates.
Speaking on SPEED with Harvick and Buxton, McLaughlin detailed the dramatic shift he has observed since his arrival in the series. The addition of broadcast partners like FOX has provided an unprecedented boost in exposure, financial investment, and network television presence.
"I think even from 2021 to now, the jump has been incredible. I think FOX coming onboard has been incredible. Just from an investment perspective, and exposure. Always being on network is really important. And it’s just being consistent and getting eyeballs on the sport," McLaughlin stated.
He also emphasized the instant conversion rate of newcomers who experience the racing spectacle firsthand at the tracks. According to the front-running driver, guests and sponsors are consistently left astonished by the sheer intensity and competitive nature of the on-track action.
"Anyone that I have brought to the track, whether it’s a friend or a sponsor or anyone that just wants to check it out, they come to their first IndyCar race and they’re like ‘Wow, this is incredible! What have we been missing?’" he shared.
Furthermore, McLaughlin praised the leadership behind the scenes, acknowledging the pivotal roles played by venue figures like Doug Boles and Roger Penske through Penske Entertainment. With strong broadcast metrics and robust financial backing, the championship is positioned firmly for continued success in the future.
