A major development has unfolded within the Haas lineup as the team officially confirms a driver change for the remainder of the Mexico City Grand Prix weekend. Ryo Hirakawa has been tapped to step in and take over driving duties from Esteban Ocon.
The Japanese driver, who has served as a reserve driver for the American outfit, initially participated in Free Practice 1 at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez on Friday. During that opening session, he piloted the VF-26 and finished 15th overall before Ocon returned to action for the second practice hour later that day.
However, on Saturday morning, the team issued a formal statement announcing that the reserve driver would assume full driving responsibilities for the rest of the event. The official release confirmed the change for the remainder of the weekend's action.

The team statement noted that the 32-year-old two-time FIA World Endurance Championship winner and Le Mans victor with Toyota Gazoo Racing completed his third free practice outing of the season during Friday's opening session.
This sudden promotion sets the stage for the Japanese competitor to make his official Formula 1 race debut, where he will partner alongside the team's regular lineup through final practice, qualifying, and Sunday's 71-lap Grand Prix. The team concluded by stating that no further comments would be provided at this time.
