“What does it take to win the title? Win every race. That’s the plan,” Russell said, as quoted by FormulaPassion. “Kimi has had an incredible season. He’s been practically flawless all year, but now we’re entering the crucial phase. I will just focus on myself.”
Russell also emphasized that the recent pressure has fueled him. “If I keep getting results like this weekend, no matter what happens at the end of the season, I’ll be happy. It’s been a really tough period for me, and now I feel like I’ve overcome it,” he added.
However, a looming threat remains: a grid penalty for introducing a fifth engine. Mercedes must carefully calculate the best time to take the hit without derailing their momentum. This adds another strategic layer to the closing stages of the season.
In Baku, only Max Verstappen posed a real challenge. With an upgraded Red Bull, the Dutchman tried to pressure Russell. But the Briton had a secret weapon: a perfect middle sector. He built a cushion of up to one second there, making it nearly impossible for Verstappen to get close enough to attack into Turn 1.
This victory is about more than points—it’s a signal that Russell is ready for an all-out fight. Antonelli may still lead, but with Mercedes’ performance on the rise, the title battle could become one of the most thrilling in recent years.
