A major strategic decision has been taken by Red Bull Racing as Laurent Mekies has officially signed a contract extension keeping him as CEO and Team Principal until the end of the 2031 Formula 1 season. The significant announcement was delivered by shareholder Mark Mateschitz during a team debrief in Milton Keynes on Wednesday, following a stellar run of performances that has cemented the squad's competitive edge in the championship.
This long-term commitment comes just days after star driver Max Verstappen secured a dominant victory at Sepang, followed by a clean sweep of both the sprint race and the grand prix in Singapore. The back-to-back triumphs highlight the structural stability and competitive resurgence of the Milton Keynes outfit under its current management framework.
Before taking over the leadership reins at Red Bull Racing, Mekies built an extensive and highly respected career within the motorsport paddock. His previous high-profile roles include serving as Team Principal for sister squad Racing Bulls, alongside holding senior technical and sporting positions with Minardi, Toro Rosso, the FIA, and Ferrari.
In a joint statement released by shareholders Mark Mateschitz and Chalerm Yoovidhya, the leadership praised the Team Principal for successfully steering the group through a crucial period of organizational transition. Oliver Mintzlaff, Red Bull's CEO of corporate projects and investments, further reiterated that absolute continuity at the top level is a fundamental ingredient for sustained championship success.
Reflecting on his extended tenure, Mekies was quick to credit the exceptional efforts delivered by the departments led by technical director Pierre Wache and powertrains chief Ben Hodgkinson. With 2026 marking the team's inaugural campaign utilizing their proprietary power units developed by Red Bull Ford Powertrains, strong leadership unity remains vital as the squad targets ultimate glory.
