The Formula 1 free practice sessions at the Autodromo Jose Carlos Pace in Sao Paulo featured an unexpected strategic decision from the Red Bull Racing pit wall. Max Verstappen surprisingly brought an end to his second practice session earlier than scheduled, sparking discussions throughout the paddock regarding the technical state of his RB22.
The Dutch driver consistently locked into third position across Friday's sessions, remaining roughly two tenths off the pace set by the pacesetters. Although the four-time world champion maintained strong competitive potential at the front, recurring gremlins such as downshift complaints and power steering issues continued to test his patience on the demanding Brazilian circuit.
Tension in the garage heightened during a memorable radio exchange between Verstappen and replacement race engineer Tom Hart regarding power unit adjustments. However, the most defining moment arrived when the reigning champion opted to dive into the pitlane with over six minutes remaining on the clock, forfeiting the opportunity to practice race starts on the steep uphill straight.

Red Bull head of race strategy Hannah Schmitz quickly clarified the reasoning behind the early return to the garage to clear up any speculation. "It was simply because we found a lot of inconsistencies in the long run data and we didn't feel like it was helpful anymore," Schmitz explained regarding the team's decisive stance.
Schmitz further noted that the team had already gathered the necessary parameters needed for overnight setup changes, allowing engineers to get straight to work. This calculated approach highlights Red Bull's determination to fine-tune their package against key rivals like Lando Norris as the championship battle intensifies.
