Red Bull Admits F1 Start Problem Won't Be Fully Fixed Until 2027

Red Bull team principal Laurent Mekies has openly admitted that the team's recurring race start issues will not be fully resolved until the 2027 season. This frank assessment comes in the wake of Isack Hadjar demanding a complete clutch redesign following a deeply problematic start during the United States Grand Prix.

When the starting lights went out in Austin, the young Red Bull charger immediately plummeted from third to fifth place on the grid. Hadjar squarely blamed the setback on a severe clutch over-delivery issue. To compound the frustration inside the garage, both he and teammate Max Verstappen suffered persistent radio communication failures throughout the Grand Prix weekend.

Addressing media queries regarding Hadjar's pointed criticism about fixing basic operational hurdles, Mekies acknowledged the validity of the driver's frustrations. He noted that struggling with radio failures for two consecutive races is completely unacceptable and drains unnecessary energy from the entire engineering crew.

However, Mekies emphasized that optimizing launch performance is an infinitely more complex challenge. It spans across nearly every single technical department within the factory—encompassing the engine, gearbox, and clutch assemblies. He added that while the car's overall pace has vastly improved, fighting closer to the front makes their current start deficit far more painful against elite rivals.

According to Motorsport.com, fans and team members alike must wait for the next regulatory cycle for a definitive engineering fix. While minor operational tweaks will be introduced race by race to close the gap, substantial hardware and design modifications will only arrive next year.
