Red Bull Racing has officially admitted fault following the disqualification of Isack Hadjar from qualifying at the 2026 Miami Grand Prix due to a technical infringement. The Milton Keynes-based team accepted the decision issued by the FIA without appeal.
The breach involved the car’s floor, with sections of the floor boards exceeding the permitted reference volume. In modern Formula 1 aerodynamics, the floor is a critical component for generating downforce through ground effect, making dimensional compliance essential.
"We made a mistake and we respect the decision of the Stewards. No performance advantage was intended nor gained."
From a technical standpoint, even millimetre-level deviations are treated as serious infringements due to their potential aerodynamic benefits. FIA regulations enforce strict compliance with no margin for tolerance.
Team principal Laurent Mekies confirmed that the team will conduct an internal review to understand the root cause and strengthen processes to prevent a recurrence.
"We will learn from this incident and assess our processes to ensure it does not happen again."
The disqualification forces Hadjar to start from the back of the grid, significantly altering the team’s race strategy. Focus now shifts to maximising race performance under potentially unstable conditions.
With Max Verstappen starting at the front, Red Bull remains in contention for a strong result, despite the operational setback on its second car.
The incident underlines the importance of technical precision in Formula 1, where even minor process errors can have major competitive consequences over a race weekend.
