A brand-new era for the premier world rally championship is officially underway as the top class prepares for a major technical overhaul next season. Vehicles built to the incoming WRC27 regulations will compete head-to-head alongside traditional Rally2 machinery that has been heavily upgraded utilizing a separate Rally2-WRC-Kit conversion package.
Amidst this sweeping regulatory shift, M-Sport remains the sole team thus far to officially announce the development of a dedicated conversion kit for its rally machine. The British outfit has already put the newly developed car through rigorous test sessions across rugged gravel and tarmac roads in Britain and Spain throughout October.
The kit-equipped Fiesta is now swiftly moving beyond controlled test environments and stepping directly into a competitive rally setting. This transition marks a vital milestone in validating the vehicle's performance envelope, reliability, and handling characteristics under real racing pressure.

To evaluate the car in an authentic event scenario, M-Sport has secured special permission from the FIA to run the vehicle during an upcoming rally weekend. According to an official statement released by the event organizer, driver McErlean will pilot the car among the ERC competitors, though he will not be eligible to score points or fight for a position in the official rally standings.
Looking ahead to the broader grid landscape, manufacturer participation is evolving rapidly alongside these technical shifts. Among the established contenders, Toyota is actively developing a brand-new WRC27 car, while Hyundai has yet to unveil its definitive plans for the upcoming campaign. Meanwhile, ambitious new entrants Project Rally One and RMC Motorsport have likewise confirmed their intentions to build WRC27 machinery for next season.
