Oscar Piastri described a 'painful' Dutch Grand Prix where his race went 'downhill' as he finished sixth for McLaren, 32 seconds behind winner Lando Norris.

After the restart following Max Verstappen's crash, Piastri climbed from fifth to third by overtaking Charles Leclerc and George Russell. But a slow pit stop and a questionable tyre strategy undid his early promise.

“The plan was to start on hards and go to the end, but it became clear quickly they weren't great. The slow first stop was painful, and the pace after was painful. But I don't think our strategy was the main issue,” Piastri explained.

The first set of hards felt okay, but the second set only lasted five laps before the front tyres gave up. “It was a mess. I couldn't hold position and ended up sixth,” he added.

Piastri admitted he's struggling to understand his inconsistent pace. “Lando won by a big margin, so the car is good. But for some reason I can't extract the pace. It's not the first time,” he said.

The result costs Piastri valuable points in the championship fight, as he now trails Norris significantly, adding pressure within the team.
