Dani Pedrosa, MotoGP legend and current KTM test rider, has offered surprising advice to Pecco Bagnaia, who is enduring a torrid run of form with Ducati. According to Pedrosa, the Italian should stop thinking about results and focus on his riding. "I know what I'm about to say will sound strange, because we're in the world championship and results are what matter most, but I think Bagnaia needs to stop thinking about results," Pedrosa told DAZN.

Since MotoGP returned from its summer break at the British Grand Prix last month, Bagnaia has struggled mightily. In the last three rounds, he has crashed out of all three grands prix, while extending his successive Q1 appearance run to four. Meanwhile, his Ducati teammate, Marc Marquez, has won five of the last seven races and now leads the championship. This contrast puts immense pressure on Bagnaia, a double MotoGP world champion.

Bagnaia's main issue all year has been a lack of rear grip. Before the summer break, he was still able to fight for podiums. However, since Silverstone, the problem has worsened, and Ducati has yet to find a solution. Tensions between Bagnaia and the team flared again after DAZN cameras caught him at Misano saying his team "won't let me" try a standard set-up on his GP26.

Pedrosa, a 31-time MotoGP race winner and DAZN pundit, believes Bagnaia must ignore results and focus fully on his riding to improve. "He needs to focus on riding, on gradually regaining his riding form," Pedrosa said. "Riding comes back with feeling, that's clear. When you lack confidence, you can't ride comfortably. But when you're always thinking about the result, about not making Q2, not getting a front row start, or not being on the podium... you're going to judge everything else more negatively. I think it's a good time for him to forget, in a way, about the result. Being in the official Ducati team, with Marquez winning alongside him, it's almost impossible to do, but let's say it would be almost the only way to start regaining his feeling."

Pedrosa's advice may seem counterintuitive, especially at the world championship level where results are everything. However, for a rider struggling with confidence, the pressure of results can be counterproductive. Bagnaia needs to rebuild the foundations of his riding without the burden of towering expectations. Moreover, with Marquez in peak form, the pressure from within the team is immense.

Ducati as a manufacturer is certainly not idle. They continue to seek technical solutions for Bagnaia's grip issues. However, so far, no satisfactory answer has emerged. This situation echoes previous seasons where Bagnaia also faced difficulties but always managed to bounce back. The question is, can he climb out of the same hole this time?

Clearly, Pedrosa's advice offers a different perspective. Perhaps it's true that Bagnaia needs to momentarily forget the standings and the pressure, then return to basics: enjoying riding and rediscovering his feeling. If it works, it's not impossible he'll return to the podium and change the course of the season. But if not, the pressure will only mount, and his future at Ducati could be questioned. We'll wait and see Bagnaia's performance in the next race.
