A sensational performance was delivered by Pedro Acosta during the dramatic Sprint race at the Sepang International Circuit. The Red Bull KTM Factory Racing rider claimed a brilliant victory by capitalizing on a crash from leader Alex Marquez and fending off strong challenges in the closing stages. The ten-lap Sprint was heavily characterized by looming rain, changing track conditions, and unpredictable racing action.
The race started with an excellent getaway from Alex Marquez at the Sepang International Circuit. The Spanish rider immediately took control at the front, followed closely by Ai Ogura, Pedro Acosta, and his older brother Marc Marquez. Meanwhile, Marco Bezzecchi slotted into fifth place, while Francesco Bagnaia also capitalized well on his starting grid position.
Entering the third lap, the situation drastically shifted as approaching rain prompted marshals to wave the white flag, granting riders permission to enter the pit lane for bike swaps. However disaster struck the race leader on the very next lap. Alex Marquez suffered a costly crash, seeing his victory aspirations instantly evaporate and blowing the race wide open for the chasing pack.
Following the incident, Ai Ogura inherited the lead of the race. The Japanese rider put up a strong defense, successfully keeping Acosta at bay for multiple laps. Meanwhile, changing conditions caused tactical uncertainty throughout the field. Jack Miller was the first to pit for wet tires, but his second machine was not ready in the garage, forcing a premature end to the Australian's race.
With three laps remaining, Ogura still held firm at the front with Acosta and Marc Marquez right behind. Acosta launched his decisive overtaking maneuver in the penultimate lap to seize the lead. Shortly after, Marc Marquez also slipped past Ogura, while Bezzecchi surged forward to secure the final step of the podium as Acosta cruised across the finish line to take victory.
