Pedro Acosta emerged as the bravest and fastest rider in a tricky and treacherous Sprint race at Sepang 2026. The Spanish KTM rider delivered another masterclass as the track conditions grew damp lap by lap, tempting a few backmarkers into an unsuccessful gamble of swapping bikes for wet tyres.
Acosta clinched victory after an intense battle starting with three laps remaining against Ai Ogura. The Trackhouse rider tried to fight back after being overtaken by the 'shark', but he was subsequently passed by both Marc Marquez and Marco Bezzecchi, dropping off the podium altogether.
Finishing second was a vital result for the factory Ducati rider in the championship context. Given the tricky conditions, the reigning world champion chose not to take unnecessary risks while comfortably staying ahead of Bezzecchi. The standings now see him 19 points clear of the injured Martin and 52 points ahead of Bez, making the path toward a tenth career title look clear. For Bezzecchi and Aprilia, a third-place finish might no longer suffice if they wish to reopen the championship fight.

Meanwhile, Alex Marquez suffered a major heartbreak after starting strongly but crashing out of the lead early in the race, throwing away a likely victory. Behind Ogura, Fabio Di Giannantonio, Francesco Bagnaia, Brad Binder, Diogo Moreira, and Enea Bastianini rounded out the points-scoring positions.
