Pedro Acosta Dominates Austrian MotoGP Practice, Marc Marquez Secures Q2

Pedro Acosta continued his relentless pace at the Red Bull Ring, topping the MotoGP Austrian Grand Prix Friday practice. The KTM rider set a benchmark time of 1m28.381s, edging out Gresini Ducati's Fermin Aldeguer by 0.127 seconds.

Ai Ogura impressed on his return from hand surgery, putting his Trackhouse Aprilia third, just 0.187s adrift. The Japanese rider was the leading Aprilia, outperforming Jorge Martin who ended up fifth.

Meanwhile, the title contenders showed no standout pace. Marc Marquez gradually improved to fourth on his Ducati, just ahead of Martin. Martin's teammate, Marco Bezzecchi, had a muted session and finished ninth after several errors under braking.

The session was red-flagged late on for a nasty crash involving Alex Marquez. The Gresini Ducati rider lost the front after a small wheelie out of Turn 1, sending him sliding down the straight while his bike cartwheeled onto the grass. He was able to rejoin on his spare bike and secured a Q2 spot in eighth, just behind an impressive Brad Binder.

Yamaha will have Fabio Quartararo in Q2 after he took tenth. However, Honda missed out despite Johann Zarco spending much of the session in the top ten. Zarco crashed early at Turn 4, and his LCR teammate Diogo Moreira also went through the gravel while walking away. The stewards quickly determined that Moreira had no time to react, so no yellow flag penalty was issued. The LCR pair were eventually pushed down to 12th and 13th, just behind factory Honda rider Luca Marini.

This practice session sets the stage for a thrilling Austrian GP. Acosta's dominance in front of KTM and Red Bull's home crowd makes him a serious threat, while rivals like Marquez and Martin are still lurking. Qualifying promises to be intense.
