Pecco Bagnaia Fears Injury Before Mugello

Pecco Bagnaia has expressed concern over his physical condition ahead of the 2026 Italian MotoGP after admitting that something in his wrist "doesn't feel in the right position" following a difficult Catalunya weekend. The Ducati rider now faces uncertainty before one of the most important home races of the season at Mugello.

Bagnaia had already been doubtful for Monday's official Catalunya test after suffering dizziness and pain during the final restart of Sunday's grand prix. The situation followed the major Turn 1 accident involving Johann Zarco and Luca Marini, which triggered a restart and created physical concerns for multiple Ducati riders.

The Italian was seen using an ice pack on his left arm inside the Ducati Lenovo garage before returning to the circuit on his spare bike. Despite the discomfort, Bagnaia still managed to finish the race in fifth position before being promoted to third after post-race penalties for Ai Ogura and Joan Mir.

"I feel in pain and a bit sick. When I started braking, I began to feel dizzy and it was very strange on the bike. I just tried to survive until the final lap," Bagnaia explained after the Catalan MotoGP.

Although he returned for Monday's official test and completed 23 laps before rain interrupted the session, Bagnaia later admitted fresh concerns regarding his wrist condition. The Italian confirmed he plans to undergo further medical checks once back home in Italy to determine whether a more serious injury exists.

"I may need to have my wrist checked again when I get home because I feel like something isn't in the right position. We will try to understand the situation. I will definitely do a lot of physiotherapy and avoid overtraining because things could become worse," Bagnaia told Sky Italia.

The situation adds to Ducati's growing injury concerns across its MotoGP roster. Alex Marquez suffered collarbone and vertebra injuries after crashing into the slowing KTM of Pedro Acosta during the original Catalunya start procedure. Debris from the incident also struck the hand of race winner Fabio Di Giannantonio, who was forced to miss Monday's official test.

At the same time, reigning world champion Marc Marquez remains absent following recent shoulder and foot surgery. Ducati therefore heads into Mugello with several key riders dealing with physical concerns at a critical stage of the championship battle.

Bagnaia's condition carries particular importance because Mugello represents one of Ducati's most significant races of the season. Beyond the pressure of performance expectations, the circuit's heavy braking zones and rapid direction changes place additional strain on riders' wrists and forearms, especially when physical recovery is incomplete.

With the championship fight intensifying and Ducati managing multiple fitness concerns within its rider line-up, Bagnaia's physical condition over the coming days could become a major storyline heading into the Italian MotoGP weekend.
