Oscar Piastri Defeats Pedro Acosta in Thrilling Off-Road Buggy Rematch

High-speed competition across disciplines returned as Oscar Piastri faced off against MotoGP star Pedro Acosta in a demanding off-road challenge. The reunion of these two young racing stars was featured in Quad Lock’s Young Guns Part 2, where both athletes swapped their usual professional racing machinery to test their limits behind the wheel of identical Segway Super Villain off-road buggies.

The action was filmed at the Monti MX motocross circuit near Menton in southern France. A treacherous dirt track featuring extreme jumps, slippery ruts, and tight corners welcomed the pair as the flags dropped. This challenge served as a rematch following their initial encounter in 2024 during a karting contest in France.

Transitioning from smooth tarmac to a loose dirt surface presented a unique test for the McLaren driver. Given Acosta’s natural background in negotiating dirt tracks and sliding on two wheels, the duel promised a much more balanced playing field than their previous outing.

"Last time it was karting, which is pretty much home turf for me, so I had a bit of an advantage," Piastri said reflecting on the competition. "This time Pedro probably had the edge, with the dirt and the jumps. I’ll let people watch and decide who handled it better," he added.

Hosted by adventure rider and television presenter Charley Boorman, the competition was divided into three separate segments. The event kicked off with a sprint race, followed by a speed trap test, and concluded with a decisive two-lap showdown.

Strong performance was displayed immediately by the Formula 1 representative as he secured victories in both opening tests. Winning the sprint and speed trap challenges provided a vital psychological advantage heading into the final race.

Attempting to fight back, the Spanish rider pushed hard from the start of the final heat. Unfortunately for the two-wheel specialist, a costly mistake at the first hairpin caused him to lose valuable time. The situation intensified further when his buggy nearly rolled over after attacking one of the dirt jumps too aggressively.

Ultimately, the final challenge was completed by the Australian driver in 1 minute and 53 seconds, crossing the line one second quicker than his rival to secure another victory over his Grand Prix adversary.

Despite suffering a second consecutive defeat, pure enjoyment was evident as the MotoGP rider relished the opportunity to compete away from their respective official championships. "I always have a good time with Oscar," Acosta said. "We laughed a lot making the first video, and this one was the same. Being on the dirt with the buggies was something different for us, and the track at Monti is amazing."

The prospect of a third instalment was raised once the event concluded, with suggestions that the pair could switch to motorcycles for their next encounter.

However, less enthusiasm came from the four-wheel driver regarding taking on the motorcycle expert on two wheels. Given his commitments and contractual obligations with the Woking-based squad, the idea was politely dismissed.
