Oliver Bearman believes significant movement in the Formula 1 driver market is likely before the end of the 2026 season as teams and drivers continue evaluating the impact of the sport's new regulations.

The 2026 campaign marked the beginning of a new Formula 1 era following major changes to both aerodynamic regulations and power unit architecture. Those changes have created a new competitive landscape, forcing teams to prove their capabilities under an entirely different technical framework.

After five rounds, an initial pecking order has started to emerge. Mercedes has established itself as the benchmark through the performances of Andrea Kimi Antonelli and George Russell, while several traditional frontrunners continue to chase improvements. However, Bearman believes the competitive picture remains far from settled as development programs continue throughout the season.

"I think the end of this year is important because a lot of people are having their contracts ending. Everyone wanted to see how the pecking order was in 2026 and that will then determine what 2027 looks like," Bearman told Press Association.

His comments reflect an unusual driver market environment. Under normal circumstances, contract decisions are often influenced by historical competitiveness. However, the scale of the 2026 regulation changes has shifted attention toward current performance and future development potential rather than past success.

Bearman remains one of the most closely watched young drivers in the paddock due to his long-standing association with Ferrari. Having progressed through the Ferrari Driver Academy, the British driver continues to be viewed as a potential future race driver for the Scuderia.

Despite the speculation, Bearman insisted that he is not working toward a specific deadline for reaching Ferrari. Instead, his immediate priority remains building experience and contributing to the progress of Haas, a team he believes is moving in the right direction.

"For me, of course I'm contracted to Ferrari and they've trusted me from the very beginning, so naturally my ultimate target is to be with them. At the moment, the goal is to continue building with Haas. I'm very happy with the trajectory we're on. So no timeline, no problems," he explained.

From a strategic standpoint, Bearman's observations underline how the 2026 season has become a major evaluation period across the Formula 1 paddock. Teams capable of demonstrating long-term competitiveness under the new regulations will inevitably become more attractive destinations during future contract negotiations.

Technical stability also plays a significant role. With the regulations still in their infancy, many drivers are expected to assess not only current results but also the long-term direction of development programs before making career-defining decisions. Such conditions could trigger a domino effect throughout the driver market, particularly if high-profile seats become available.

For Bearman, Ferrari remains the ultimate ambition. However, the young Briton understands that in Formula 1's new regulatory era, choosing the right timing can be just as important as choosing the right team. As a result, the remainder of the 2026 season is likely to play a crucial role in shaping the driver market landscape heading into 2027.
