Lando Norris has insisted that McLaren is not worried about Ferrari's threat at this weekend's Italian Grand Prix. The Scuderia is set to introduce its second power unit upgrade of the season at Monza.
Through the Additional Development Upgrade Opportunities (ADUO) scheme, Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc will both receive a new and more powerful engine. This addresses Ferrari's biggest weakness since the new power unit regulations were introduced.
Top Speed Dilemma Haunting Ferrari
Top speed and horsepower have been the Scuderia's Achilles' heel all season, despite its chassis being widely regarded as the best on the grid.
However, this strength has left Ferrari exposed on high-speed circuits like Monza. The new engine is hoped to bring their performance closer to Mercedes' level.
Norris acknowledged that Ferrari will become a bigger threat from this weekend onward. Yet, he made it clear that McLaren will not be intimidated by the pressure.
High Stakes at Home Soil
Monza is a massive test for the Maranello-based outfit, eager to perform well in front of the tifosi. The new engine is expected to close the gap that rivals have exploited.
From a commercial and technological standpoint, this upgrade signals Ferrari's strong commitment to the title fight. Still, Norris reminded that McLaren remains focused on their own job.
"They'll make my life a bit trickier. But I'm not worried. If they beat us, they beat us because they deserve to," Norris told select media, including RacingNews365.
The British driver also pointed out that McLaren hasn't been competitive all season despite winning two races. He stressed that the team will stay patient and assess where they stand on this different track.
