There's happy news from the world of off-road racing. Molly Taylor has just given birth to her first child, Georgia, on Monday. But that joy hasn't slowed her down. The Australian driver has confirmed she will return to the FIA Extreme H World Cup with Kevin Hansen in Qiddiyah City, Saudi Arabia, at the end of October.
Taylor's return is more than just another race. It's an emotional comeback after becoming a mother, and a mission to defend the title she won with Hansen last season. The Taylor-Hansen duo clinched the inaugural Extreme H World Cup with Jameel Motorsport. This year, they are heading back to their old home, Veloce Racing, the team they raced for in 2022 and 2024.
"Kevin and I have developed a fantastic partnership, and winning the Extreme H World Cup together last year has only given us even more confidence in what we can achieve," Taylor said in an official statement. "It feels very special to be returning to Veloce and bringing that experience with us."
Taylor isn't the only one juggling family and racing. Hansen welcomed his daughter Mila just six months ago. For both, this season is a new chapter full of challenges, but also joy.
"This time we're also embarking on a very different journey together having just welcomed my first child and Kevin having recently become a dad too," Taylor added. "Coming back as a new mum will make this next chapter incredibly special, and undoubtedly challenging, but when I get behind the wheel, my ambitions won't have changed. I want to get back to my best, compete with no limitations and help the team fight at the front from the very beginning."
Taylor says she maintained her training throughout her pregnancy with the goal of racing in Qiddiya City at the end of October. "I'm extremely grateful to have had so much support throughout this journey. I'm incredibly motivated for the challenge ahead," she said.
Hansen is equally excited about Taylor's return. Together in Extreme E, they scored five wins and nine podiums. Now they are back in the new hydrogen-powered Extreme H era, which replaces the all-electric Extreme E. "Molly and I have built a strong partnership over the years and coming back to Extreme H together as reigning winners feels great," Hansen said. "I can't wait to be in Qiddiya City to start the journey of our title defense."
