Mostert Reveals Unlikely Fate of Title-Winning Mustang

Chaz Mostert has been reunited with the car that carried him to the 2025 Supercars title at last week's BP Adelaide Grand Final launch.

The historic machine was transported back to Adelaide for its first public appearance since last year's Gala Awards, and Mostert was surprised to see it again.

"I haven't seen it really since the start of the year," said Mostert of the Walkinshaw Mustang. "A private collector up in Queensland ended up buying it, literally five kays from the house I grew up in."

What makes the story even more unusual is that the collector has never really collected Supercars before. "They've only got a shed, so it sits on one side, and their other car sits on the other. I don't know if many other people have a Supercar sitting next to their daily driver at home!"

The Mustang in question is WR 028, raced by Mostert from the start of 2023 and auctioned off by the team in late 2024. It remained as a spare and was called back into action midway through 2025, blitzing that year's inaugural Supercars Finals Series.

"It's pretty special. It's exactly as it raced the Grand Final," Mostert continued. "Apparently the confetti blew off on the truckg so they added a bit of confetti back on. But it's super cool that they've kept it original, even with the same race tyres. I think the engine has probably seen better days too after a few burnouts on the front straight!"

Mostert also reflected on his sensational title triumph. "To be honest, it's still all a blur for me," he said. "It still hasn't quite sunk in and now we're in the middle of another season. This year is an almighty task as every team has stepped up and just trying to get in the top 10 is absolutely super hard at the moment."

While Mostert's Mustang has been retired to a laidback life, the car teammate Ryan Wood campaigned in the 2025 Grand Final is still an active machine. It was bought by Walkinshaw TWG co-owner Scott O'Donnell and gets occasional track use as part of a passenger ride business in New Zealand.
