Jorge Martin arrived at the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli leading the 2026 MotoGP standings by 19 points over Marc Marquez. The Aprilia rider took part in the first free practice session (FP1) which started at 10:45 local time, followed by Practice at 15:00. Martin, a one-time MotoGP winner at Misano in 2023, admitted he hasn't felt like the clear favourite at any point this season.

Marco Bezzecchi, Martin's Aprilia teammate, comes in with strong form, having finished third in the last four races and winning the Sprint at Misano last year. He also witnessed Andrea Kimi Antonelli's F1 Italian GP victory at Monza last weekend. On the other side, Marc Marquez has an impressive record at Misano with five wins, but his physical condition remains a talking point after a social media photo highlighted the lack of muscle mass in his right arm.

Francesco Bagnaia, also facing his final Italian race with Ducati, said he needs 'old things' on his bike to escape his performance slump. Meanwhile, Franco Morbidelli is experiencing his final home grand prix after his MotoGP departure was confirmed with VR46 announcing Nicolo Bulega for 2027. Alex Rins also announced he will retire from motorcycle racing after 2026, and Brad Binder and Jack Miller will have their final Misano MotoGP before moving to WorldSBK and Yamaha respectively.

With so many riders facing their last Misano outing, this practice session is a proving ground for Martin to maintain his championship momentum. Marquez remains the main threat, especially if his arm condition improves. The competition will intensify given Misano's demanding nature, requiring a balance between speed and stability.
