Mikey Doble secured a dramatic victory in Race 1 of the BTCC at Silverstone on Sunday (April 12), inheriting the win after teammate Aiden Moffat received a five-second penalty. The LKQ Euro Car Parts with Power Maxed Racing driver crossed the line second but was promoted to the top step, marking his second win in as many weekends.
The race was intense from the start. Moffat, starting from pole, initially led but was later penalized for track limits, handing the advantage to Doble. Tom Chilton of Team Vertu finished second, with Josh Cook of Speedworks Corolla Racing completing the podium in third.
Behind them, Ash Sutton came close to clinching the championship at Silverstone. The NAPA Racing UK driver started 14th and surged to ninth on the opening lap. However, his charge was halted when Chris Smiley of Restart Racing overtook him on the final lap, denying Sutton the 11th place he needed for the title. Sutton finished 12th, postponing his championship celebration for at least another round.
Tom Ingram endured a tougher race. The Team Vertu driver was caught in a domino collision at Brooklands on lap 2, dropping to 22nd. He recovered to finish 13th, just behind Sutton.
The race also highlighted the resilience of the Restart Racing Hyundais. Dan Lloyd, who fell to 17th due to a wrong engine map, fought back to 14th. Meanwhile, Chris Smiley delivered a standout performance, gaining 11 places to finish 11th and ultimately deciding Sutton's fate.
Up front, Josh Cook set the fastest lap with a 56.956s on lap 10, showcasing the Audi's pace. However, Doble's consistency and Moffat's penalty decided the outcome. Moffat had to settle for fourth, followed by Daryl De Leon, Gordon Shedden, Charles Rainford, Adam Morgan, Aron Taylor-Smith, and Daniel Rowbottom rounding out the top 10.
With this result, the battle for the 2026 BTCC title intensifies. Sutton still leads the standings, but Doble and Ingram remain within striking distance. The next round promises another fierce fight, especially with strong performances from teams like LKQ Euro Car Parts with Power Maxed Racing and NAPA Racing UK.
