A lighthearted moment emerged from the Mercedes garage as the team decided to tease Formula 1 championship leader Kimi Antonelli following an awkward parking mishap in Austin. The young Italian sensation was caught accidentally reversing into a wooden fence, with the amusing moment promptly shared on the team's official TikTok account.
In the short video clip, the 20-year-old driver is seen behind the wheel of a Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupe electric vehicle. While attempting to back up, he misjudged the spatial distance and made unintended contact with the wooden barrier positioned directly behind the car.
The footage, which captures both Antonelli and his teammate George Russell reacting in real-time, quickly blew up across social media. At the time of writing, the video had already amassed over 9 million views and more than 1.3 million likes from fans amused by the rare off-track blunder.
While the minor parking error brought a few laughs, the driver's stellar on-track performance throughout the season has positioned him comfortably to claim his maiden world championship title. A golden opportunity nearly materialized at the United States Grand Prix under specific competitive requirements.
Antonelli successfully secured his ninth grand prix victory of the season in Austin to keep the momentum rolling. "It was the result we needed, to be fair, and the whole team deserved it so much," Antonelli said regarding the team's relentless upgrades and flawless strategy.
