Cameron McLeod will return to the GT4 Australia grid at the Sydney round, joining forces with Jack Wallis in the #62 Silver Cup Mustang. The move comes after Wallis's regular co-driver, Sam Paley, was forced to sit out due to a scheduling conflict. McLeod was able to take the seat because his own co-driver, Mason Harvey, is also unavailable for Sydney. With McLeod and Harvey out of the #227 Mustang, it remains unclear who will pilot the second Multispares Racing entry.

For McLeod, this is more than just filling a void. He admits the allure of fighting for the Silver Cup title played a big role in his decision to return. "I think being in contention for the Silver Cup title made it a reason I really wanted to come back and do it. It’s an opportunity to keep pushing and see what we can achieve over the remaining rounds," he said. However, he acknowledges the disappointment of losing Harvey, who he rates as one of the best co-drivers he has raced with. "It’s obviously unfortunate that Mason isn’t able to come back. He’s been one of the best co-drivers I’ve raced with, so it’s disappointing he’s gone, but we’ve got Wally coming with us as our engineer, and he’s been making the car really fast, so it should be a really good team," McLeod added.

Wallis is eager to learn from McLeod, despite the latter being relatively young. He sees McLeod's experience in Europe with Ford and in Super2 as a valuable asset. "Having another Australian in the car for a change is going to be great. I’ve known Cam for a while and have watched everything he’s done with Ford in Europe, as well as what he’s achieved here in Super2, so I’m really keen to learn as much as I can from him," Wallis said. He believes McLeod's presence will bring positive energy and boost the team's confidence.

Wallis and Paley have experienced a rollercoaster season, currently sitting ninth in the standings. However, they found momentum with their first podium at the previous round in Darwin. With McLeod on board, Wallis hopes to build on that form and finish the season strongly. "It gives me another level of confidence to keep pushing forward," he stated. He also thanked Paley for his contributions over the past few rounds.

Technically, McLeod is aware that the Mustang has a different philosophy from what Wallis is used to. "The car has a pretty different philosophy to what Jack is used to. It’s quite loose, but that’s the way we’ve been able to make it work, so we’ll have to get Jack up to speed with it and get him comfortable in the car," McLeod explained. Highly experienced engineer Wally Storey will also move to the Wallis Motorsport entry, bringing with him the data and setup that have made the car competitive.

Meanwhile, reigning Silver-Am Cup champion Aaron Seton will return after a successful comeback in Darwin. He is expected to partner team owner Jason Gomersall, although the entry list still lists the co-driver as TBC. Class championship rival Dean Campbell also returns alongside Super2 racer Cody Burch. The Silver Cup competition is expected to intensify with McLeod's arrival, adding extra pressure on the title contenders.

The Sydney round will be a test for McLeod and Wallis. With McLeod's experience in European competition and Super2, this duo has the potential to be a dark horse. However, quick adaptation to the car's characteristics and new team dynamics will be key. If successful, they could shake up the Silver Cup standings and extend their positive momentum from Darwin. We look forward to the action on track.
