Scott McLaughlin finally returned to winning ways. The New Zealander broke a 35-race winless streak with a near-perfect performance at the Milwaukee Mile on Sunday. Starting from pole, he led 87 of 95 laps and finished 1.3739 seconds ahead of Kyle Kirkwood of Andretti Global. Alexander Rossi of Ed Carpenter Racing completed the podium.
This victory felt special for Scott McLaughlin. His last win came at the same track in 2024, and now he dedicates the trophy to his daughter, Lucy, who saw her father win for the first time. "Finally my little girl has seen me win, so dad's coming home with a trophy," he said with emotion in parc ferme.
The Victory Lane celebration was an emotional moment. McLaughlin thanked his wife, Carly, who is expecting their second child, and the entire Team Penske crew for their unwavering support through tough times. "They always believed in me. Today was a big step in the right direction," he added.
Meanwhile, Alex Palou was officially crowned the 2026 IndyCar Series champion for the fifth time, with one race to spare. He secured the title at Milwaukee, finishing second in the championship behind Kirkwood. Palou himself ended eighth after trying an extra pit stop strategy mid-race.
The race was relatively clean, with only one full-course caution on the opening lap. Sting Ray Robb rear-ended Dennis Hauger's car, sending the Dale Coyne Racing driver into the gravel and wall at Turn 6. That incident did not change the battle at the front.
Scott Dixon finished 17th in his final outing with Chip Ganassi Racing. For the first time since 2004, he ended a season winless. Will Power wrapped up his first season with Andretti Global in 13th place.
