Max Verstappen is set to make a highly anticipated debut in the GT World Challenge Europe season finale at Portimao this weekend, with free practice and qualifying sessions kicking off today. This move further highlights the Formula 1 star's growing involvement in GT endurance racing, following his notable appearance at the Nurburgring 24 Hours earlier this year.
The Dutchman's own racing outfit, Team Verstappen, has been actively competing in the GT World Challenge championship landscape this season utilizing competitive Mercedes machinery, showcasing a serious long-term commitment to GT racing platforms outside of the pinnacle of single-seater motorsport.
However, the high-profile GTWCE finale unfortunately clashes directly with a rescheduled penultimate round of the FIA World Endurance Championship, which is concurrently taking place at the iconic Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.

Due to these unavoidable calendar overlaps and strict Hypercar factory commitments, two regular Team Verstappen drivers—Jules Gounon and Dani Juncadella, both of whom shared driving duties with the Red Bull ace at Nurburgring—will instead contest the WEC event in Spain that weekend.
Despite the high-level driver reshuffle within the garage, global motorsport enthusiasts remain glued to the action as telemetry and onboard feeds capture Verstappen's latest endurance racing venture. The intense schedule featuring back-to-back practice runs and a crucial evening qualifying session promises an unforgettable weekend of sports car competition.
