Jorge Martin ended Friday at Silverstone with a broad smile. The Aprilia rider finished fourth in the combined practice sessions, comfortably securing direct passage to Q2 for the British Grand Prix. His lap time of 1'56.780 was exactly half a second behind his teammate Marco Bezzecchi, who topped the timesheets.
For the MotoGP championship leader, this was more than just a solid result. It was about a feeling he had been missing. “I’m happy, I did a great job. It was an important day, I tried some parts on the bike that will surely help me close the gap to the other Aprilias. This is one of the best Fridays of the season,” he said. “We have to work on many details to optimize my riding, because last year I didn’t race here, and we are still behind on the electronics.”
Martin, who joined Aprilia Racing in 2025, admitted he had lost his way since Barcelona. But at Silverstone, things started to feel different. “I feel more comfortable and have found a bit more feeling. I made the mental click I’ve been missing since Barcelona. I’m back on the bike I was fast with, and it worked right away,” he explained. These words come from a rider who has impressed this season but sometimes lacked consistency.

Asked about Bezzecchi’s performance, Martin was generous in praise. “Marco’s lap was incredible, but I think we are closer than in the last races. I am the one who has ridden this bike the least, I have a lot of grit, and sometimes I enter corners too fast and then suffer for the rest. I have to work on myself, change something in my riding style, but I know I have potential,” he added.
This positive sign comes at the perfect time. The points gap at the top of the standings is still tight, and every detail can make a difference. If Martin can maintain this pace until Sunday, a return to the top step is not out of the question. But his rivals know well: Martin is a real threat when he has found his click.
