Martin Brundle Exposes Lewis Hamilton Clever Political Game at Ferrari

Lewis Hamilton called out Charles Leclerc

The internal friction within Scuderia Ferrari following the opening-lap collision at the Mexico City Grand Prix continues to dominate the Formula 1 paddock headlines ahead of the race weekend at the Autodromo Jose Carlos Pace Interlagos. Sky Sports F1 pundit Martin Brundle believes that Lewis Hamilton is playing a shrewd political game within the red garage by openly calling out his teammate.

The seven-year world champion pointed the finger directly at Charles Leclerc after their costly lap-one tangle last weekend, claiming the Monegasque driver adopted a do-or-die approach that ultimately handed the victory straight to their rival, Max Verstappen.

Analyzing the dramatic incident, Brundle noted that Hamilton has reached a stage in his illustrious career where diplomacy takes a back seat to unfiltered honesty, capitalizing on the political leverage gained from his teammate's costly mistake on track.

"Lewis is at a stage of his career where he will be unfiltered," Brundle stated at Interlagos. "It wasn't the smartest move in Charles's career and life. That was a 75-25 move against your teammate. It wasn't a smart move. Lewis was upset about it. Lewis has realized here's a chance to actually make a bit of ground on this because that was a bit silly."

In response to the growing tension, Ferrari team principal Fred Vasseur convened clear-the-air talks on Thursday evening in Brazil to remind both drivers that team priorities must always come first. However, Brundle argues that balancing corporate team goals against fierce individual sporting ambitions remains an almost impossible task in modern grand prix racing.

"You are in Formula 1 as an individual sport's person. You are measured as an individual sport's person in a team environment," Brundle added, highlighting the ongoing modern challenge faced by top-tier drivers striving to balance personal legacy with collective obligations.
