Marc Marquez drew level with Jorge Martin at the top of the 2026 MotoGP standings after a dominant victory at Misano, while Marco Bezzecchi and Aprilia crashed down the order. Marquez's Commanding Win at Misano
Starting from third on the grid, Marc Marquez seized control of the race on the opening lap. The Spaniard was untouchable from the start, building a gap that his rivals could not close. This was his sixth win of the season and arguably the most significant, as it propelled him to the top of the standings for the first time since his early-season injury.
“I'm happy as a clam,” said Massimo Rivola, Aprilia Racing CEO, after the Mugello double podium in late May. At that time, Marquez had just returned from injury and was 102 points behind Bezzecchi. Now, after Misano, the tables have turned completely.
Bezzecchi Crashes, Martin Fades
Marco Bezzecchi started from pole and led the first lap. However, at the fast Curvone corner, he lost grip and crashed. The Italian had to settle for fifth place, trailing Marquez and Martin by 33 points. Meanwhile, Jorge Martin, who led for a few laps, suffered a dramatic drop in performance and finished fifth, behind Alex Marquez, Pedro Acosta, and Fermin Aldeguer.
With this result, Ducati also reclaimed the top spot in the constructors' standings from Aprilia. Marquez's win, plus Acosta's podium and Aldeguer's fourth place, gave Ducati maximum points. Aprilia, on the other hand, could only rely on Bezzecchi and Martin finishing outside the podium.
Pressure Mounts on Aprilia
For Aprilia, the defeat at Misano could be a heavy psychological blow. After the euphoria of Mugello, they now face the reality that Ducati and Marquez are back to their best. The next race at the Red Bull Ring in Austria next weekend will be a mental test for the entire team. If they can bounce back and be competitive, that in itself would be a victory.
On the other side, Luigi Dall’Igna, General Manager of Ducati Corse, is smiling. He has turned around a season that was once in jeopardy. “With Marquez, we are back on the winning path. This is proof of Ducati's strength,” he said. Now, Ducati not only has Marquez at the top but also Acosta and Aldeguer showing impressive form.
A Bright Future for Ducati
With Marquez and Martin sharing the championship lead, and Bezzecchi 33 points behind, the 2026 title race is still wide open. However, the momentum is clearly with Ducati. Aprilia must quickly find solutions to the performance issues that surfaced at Misano. If not, a promising season could end without a title.
