MotoGP champion Marc Marquez has made a firm commitment to never use the influence and power of the media as an offensive weapon to undermine or damage competing riders in the world championship paddock. His perspective on media management is heavily shaped by the historic controversies he has weathered throughout his illustrious career.
Marquez was famously caught at the epicenter of a vicious media storm that erupted at Sepang in 2015, when Valentino Rossi launched aggressive public allegations claiming the Spaniard was actively trying to help Jorge Lorenzo secure that season’s premier class world title.
Those explosive claims fueled a fierce on-track battle at Sepang days later, culminating in a controversial collision triggered by Rossi that sent Marquez crashing out of the race. The sanction that followed forced Rossi to start the Valencia season finale from the back of the grid, ultimately handing the championship advantage to Lorenzo.

Despite often bearing the brunt of the hostile media narrative during the height of the feud — which included a rejected handshake offer during a 2018 press conference following another clash in Argentina — Marquez maintains a strict personal boundary regarding the utilization of press power.
While acknowledging that media reach is an effective tool when earned through past sporting achievements, the Catalan rider insists it should never be turned into a detriment against fellow competitors.
“Of course, if you have the power it’s because you are doing the things in a good way in the past, not in the present,” Marc Marquez stated during an interview with Autosport.
“Pero I will never use the power of the media against somebody. I will say, maybe I will use the media for my benefit, and I already use for my benefit — I will not say mental benefits, economic benefits, I mean just for my benefit, to try to be quiet. But never against somebody.”
This philosophy highlights the mental maturity of the veteran rider as he navigates intense championship battles on track against rivals such as Jorge Martin, prioritizing personal tranquility over psychological warfare in the press.
