Marc Marquez arrives at the Mandalika International Circuit with high ambitions to reverse past negative trends ahead of the 2026 MotoGP Indonesian Grand Prix. Speaking at Thursday's opening press conference, the Ducati Lenovo rider made it clear that he will not play it safe and is ready to deploy his maximum potential on track.
The Spaniard's previous record at Mandalika has been unkind, having scored just eleven world championship points in four races without ever finishing a Sunday grand prix. The bitter memory of 2025, when a first-lap crash with Marco Bezzecchi ended both his race and his season, is now firmly behind him as he rides a wave of strong momentum.
Securing four one-two finishes over the last six race weekends, the nine-time world champion sits just two points behind Aprilia rider Jorge Martin in the standings. Acknowledging that the layout suits the Aprilia package better, Marquez remains steadfast in his aggressive approach.

"Compared to last year, I’ve come here under completely different circumstances," Marquez confirmed. "I’m simply focusing on the present and trying to get off to a good start here in our pit. As I said in Motegi, I’ll try to attack on every track—that’s the aim here too. It’s obvious that the circuit suits the Aprilia better, but we’ll try to stay close to them."
Beyond the championship battle, the weekend is also dominated by discussions surrounding the newly unveiled 2027 weekend format. Addressing the reduced track time and increased intensity, Marquez offered a pragmatic view on regulatory decisions.
"We need to understand the main objective behind the changes," he stated. "For the rider, the adjustment means greater intensity; it will be more demanding. But we don’t decide that. The teams and the organisers decide. You either accept it or leave it.">
