Marc Marquez has been officially awarded as the best male athlete of Spain for 2025 by the Spanish National Sports Council, Consejo Superior de Deportes. The 33-year-old Ducati Lenovo Team rider received the prestigious Premio Rey Felipe following his remarkable comeback and dominant championship campaign in the premier class.
The Spanish rider thoroughly dominated the 2025 season with the factory Borgo Panigale squad. Securing a remarkable total of eleven Grand Prix victories alongside fourteen sprint triumphs, he successfully claimed his seventh premier-class world crown, marking his ninth career world championship in Grand Prix motorcycle racing.
This world title served as the ultimate reward after a long and grueling road back to the top of motorsport. Following his sixth premier-class championship in 2019, a severe right arm crash at the Spanish Grand Prix in Jerez triggered four major surgeries between 2020 and 2022, casting serious doubts over his racing future for a prolonged period.
After struggling with uncompetitive machinery at Honda, he made the brave decision to terminate his lucrative contract and join Gresini Racing before earning a coveted promotion to the factory Ducati squad. That strategic move immediately paid off in 2025, allowing him to match the legendary tally of nine world titles previously held solely by Valentino Rossi.
This marks the second time the iconic rider has received this esteemed national honor, having previously won it back in 2014. The official presentation ceremony is expected to take place soon in the presence of King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia, celebrating his historic return to global athletic supremacy.
