Marc Marquez has finally addressed the concerning remark he made to his Ducati Lenovo team after the Silverstone MotoGP, where he claimed to have "no control over my right arm". Speaking to the media at Aragon on Thursday, the reigning world champion clarified what he really meant.
Marc Marquez admitted he was frustrated with his seventh-place finish at Silverstone, feeling his physical condition wasn't fully there despite gaining muscle during the summer break. "I approached the weekend in a normal way, riding aggressively from FP1. But immediately when I got up on Sunday, I saw that it's not the time to do it," he said.
He went on to explain that the issue is related to his right shoulder, which has undergone seven different surgeries. "It's related to the seven different surgeries I have in my right shoulder. So that's it," he stated. This comes after he also had nerve surgery in May.
With a 40-point deficit to championship leader Jorge Martin, all eyes are on Marquez to bounce back at one of his most successful circuits. Aragon has been a happy hunting ground for him, with seven wins, including four consecutive victories on a Ducati. "This is a track I like for my riding style, and if we want to fight for the championship, we must finish in front of these Aprilia guys," he said.
Despite his confidence, Marquez remains wary of the threat from Aprilia, who have been formidable this season. "It's obvious that Aprilia found something this year because all four Aprilia riders are very fast at every racetrack, especially tracks with fast corners like Assen and Silverstone. Here we have a mix of those corners, so let's see," he added.
He also downplayed the pressure, saying it's no more than in the past. "Last year I was riding in an easier way. This year, even at Silverstone, riding at my 100% on Friday and Saturday, I was only fifth or fourth. Here it should be better for the right arm because of the left corners, plus my particular riding style prefers left corners. I would like to be competitive in the next races," he concluded.
One potential Aprilia rival will be missing this weekend, as Ai Ogura, who is currently six points ahead of Marquez in the championship, was forced to withdraw due to a hand injury sustained in training.
