Marc Marquez asserted his dominance at the San Marino Grand Prix 2026, taking a decisive victory at Misano after his main rival, Marco Bezzecchi, crashed out on the opening lap. The win propelled Marquez to the top of the championship standings, level on points with Jorge Martin, and marked a crucial turning point in the title race.
The race was anticipated as a fierce battle between Ducati and Aprilia on home soil. Starting from pole position, Bezzecchi got a clean start and led the field. However, his hopes of pulling away were dashed when he lost control at the first corner, a mistake reminiscent of his past errors. Marquez, who started from the second row, seized the opportunity and never looked back.
For Marquez, this was his fifth win in the last seven races. Despite not being at peak physical condition, he remains a force to be reckoned with. In the past two weekends, he has erased a 40-point deficit to Jorge Martin. Now, with 14 races remaining, Marquez leads the championship on countback. His recent form is surely causing anxiety at Aprilia, especially as he has repeatedly overtaken Bezzecchi in similar fashion at the start of races.
Meanwhile, Marco Bezzecchi endured a bitter disappointment. Since returning from injury at the British GP, he had shown impressive form with four consecutive podiums. But his mistake at Misano cost him valuable points. With possibly only seven races left, catching up will be a daunting task. Aprilia is also under pressure after their previous high at Mugello.
Ducati has now strengthened its position atop the constructors' standings, while Aprilia must regroup quickly to keep their title hopes alive. The Misano race served as a reminder that in MotoGP, consistency and composure in crucial moments are key. Marquez has proven it, while Bezzecchi still has lessons to learn.
