The WRC driver market has taken an intriguing turn after Rich Millener made a revealing admission regarding Adrien Fourmaux. The French driver has emerged as a genuine candidate for the team's future roster as the championship faces lingering uncertainty with none of last season's squads having announced their full line-ups for the upcoming campaign yet.
This shifting landscape comes on the heels of a massive structural announcement. M-Sport recently secured a brand-new factory partnership with Ford. While the official partnership kicks off fully in 2028, the American manufacturer is stepping up its support for the squad significantly starting as early as next year, providing a vital boost to their competitive aspirations.
Under the upcoming development plan, the team is set to compete for the next two seasons using a Ford Fiesta Rally2 outfitted with an FIA-approved conversion kit. The outfit expects to field three cars in the WRC's premier class before transitioning to an entirely brand-new challenger in 2029, setting up a clear multi-year roadmap focused on long-term success and ultimate victory.
Addressing the driver market dynamics, Millener candidly admitted that former factory driver Fourmaux is firmly on their radar. "I don’t think I’d be doing my job if I said he wasn’t on the list. We haven’t spoken to anybody, honestly, since the last round. We have just been going a hundred miles an hour to get everything in place for the Ford announcement," Millener stated when discussing potential future options.
Millener also emphasized that Ford's enhanced involvement alters how the team evaluates talent. Historically, selection relied heavily on a driver's ability to bring personal backing alongside raw talent. Now, with a more secure foundation, the team can approach driver recruitment differently while maintaining a calculated and patient strategy to ensure they build a cohesive winning environment.
