Honda factory rider Luca Marini has revealed that the sudden virus which forced him to withdraw from the Australian Grand Prix at Phillip Island left him feeling as though he was suffering from severe arthritis due to complete limb stiffness.
The Italian rider pulled out of last weekend's race event due to the unexpected illness, leaving the factory Honda squad completely empty on the grid as the red lights went out.
Ahead of his anticipated return at the Malaysian Grand Prix, Marini has finally opened up about the exact nature of his health scare and the concerning symptoms he endured during his sudden sidelined weekend.

"The sensations were very strange; I had never experienced anything like that," he told reporters during Thursday's media sessions at Sepang, as reported by Crash.net.
"I literally had no strength or power in my muscles. I had a lot of difficulty moving my hands, fingers, and feet," the Italian rider elaborated on his alarming physical state.
Describing the extent of the debilitating illness, Marini added, "It was as if I had arthritis. I was even struggling to type messages on my phone."
Marini admitted that he remains uncertain about the exact strain of the virus that struck him down in Australia and is still awaiting comprehensive test results from medical staff.
However, the Honda rider expressed optimism regarding his recovery as he steps foot into the Sepang paddock ahead of the opening practice sessions.
"I'm waiting for the results of the tests they did here," he noted regarding his ongoing medical checks. "The initial parameters seem normal, and everything looks good. In fact, I'm already starting to feel much better."
On the other side of the garage, Honda's factory lineup will return to full strength this weekend in Malaysia with Joan Mir cleared to make his much-anticipated competitive return.
The 2020 MotoGP world champion had been forced to sit on the sidelines since concluding the San Marino Grand Prix weekend due to a persistent medical complication.
Addressing the media on Thursday after missing four consecutive rounds, Mir disclosed that his absence stemmed from vision problems triggered by extreme physical fatigue.
While the Spaniard refrained from diving deep into the exact catalysts behind his fatigue buildup, he candidly admitted that the ongoing championship campaign has proven significantly more demanding than anticipated.
Honda previously enjoyed a competitive outing at Sepang last season, highlighted by Mir securing his second podium finish of the campaign in third place.
