MotoGP, Sportrik Media - Three-time MotoGP world champion Jorge Lorenzo believes the reported career moves of Pedro Acosta and Francesco Bagnaia ahead of the 2027 season would be the right decisions for both riders.
Although no official announcements have been made, Lorenzo is convinced the reports linking Acosta with the factory Ducati team and Bagnaia with Aprilia are accurate as MotoGP prepares for the upcoming 850cc era with Pirelli tyres.
When asked about the rumours, the Spaniard did not hesitate to confirm his belief.
“For sure! 100%!” said Jorge Lorenzo when asked about the possibility of Pedro Acosta joining the factory Ducati team in place of Francesco Bagnaia.
Lorenzo believes the potential move would allow Acosta to compete with the strongest technical package on the grid while measuring himself directly against Marc Marquez, who remains one of the benchmark riders in the championship.
“I think they've made the right choice. Pedro made the right choice to go to Ducati. He will have the same package as the best, as Marc,” explained Jorge Lorenzo.
The former champion also suggested that a switch to Aprilia could benefit Bagnaia after spending several seasons with Ducati, offering a new environment that could help restore confidence and motivation.
“Pecco also needed to change, to start thinking positive again. In Ducati, with Marc in the same garage, it was not fresh anymore. And Aprilia is not so bad,” added Jorge Lorenzo.
If the moves materialise, Acosta would face a scenario similar to Lorenzo’s own experience when he joined Repsol Honda alongside Marc Marquez in 2019. Lorenzo believes a direct intra-team battle between the two Spanish riders could become one of the most compelling rivalries in the coming MotoGP seasons.
Acosta’s strong early performances in the 2026 season have already reinforced expectations about his potential future impact in the premier class, supporting Lorenzo’s prediction that the young Spaniard could become a major force in MotoGP in the years ahead.
