Liam Lawson Praises Racing Bulls Strategy After 2026 Hungarian F1 Points

Liam Lawson praised Racing Bulls’ strategy decisions after finishing eighth at the 2026 Hungarian Formula 1 Grand Prix and securing his eighth top-10 result of the season.

Lawson started the race from 11th after enduring a difficult qualifying session on Saturday. However, a strong launch and effective opening lap immediately moved him into the points-paying positions.

The New Zealander considered the first lap a crucial phase in determining the direction of his race. The positions he gained at the start gave him an opportunity to remain involved in the top-10 battle throughout the 70-lap contest at the Hungaroring.

“It was a good race for us. The first corner and lap one were obviously very important for me because qualifying yesterday was challenging,” Lawson said.

“After a strong start, we knew we still had a long race ahead, but the car felt extremely strong throughout,” he added.

Racing Bulls then had to decide whether a one-stop or two-stop strategy offered the fastest route to the finish. Lawson switched to the hard compound on lap 21 before completing a long final stint on soft tyres.

The sequence of decisions helped him retain a place inside the points until the chequered flag. Lawson described the two-stop approach as the correct call from the team.

“A huge thanks to the team for making the right call with the two-stop strategy,” Lawson said.

Lawson’s result was supported by Arvid Lindblad finishing 10th. Racing Bulls therefore scored with both cars and ended the first half of the season on a positive note.

“Having two cars in the points is a great way to finish the first half of the season,” Lawson said.

The additional points allowed Racing Bulls to enter the summer break fifth in the constructors’ standings. Lawson believes the position reflects the work completed by the entire team during the opening half of the 2026 campaign.

“Heading into the summer break fifth in the constructors’ championship reflects all the hard work the team has put in this year,” he said.

Lawson will now use the summer break to recover before Formula 1 resumes at Zandvoort. He hopes Racing Bulls can maintain the momentum generated by its recent run of positive results.

“I am looking forward to recharging over the next few weeks, but I am also excited to carry this momentum into Zandvoort,” Lawson concluded.
