Formula 1, Sportrik Media - Lewis Hamilton has made a strong start to the Formula 1 2026 season with Ferrari, securing his first podium for the team at the Chinese Grand Prix and signaling a turnaround after a challenging 2025 campaign.
Ferrari currently sits second in the early constructors’ standings, with Charles Leclerc contributing 49 points and Hamilton adding 41. The Scuderia has achieved podium finishes in all three opening rounds, highlighting a consistent and competitive start to the season.
Hamilton emphasized that his second season within Ferrari has brought a significant improvement in understanding the team’s systems, working methods, and culture. He noted that his arrival in 2025 coincided with a car concept that had already been finalized, limiting development opportunities during that campaign.
“It’s a huge difference, and it’s a huge undertaking,” Hamilton said in a Formula 1 interview.
“People don’t always understand how big it is when you move to a new team. You can jump into the cockpit, but learning new tools, adapting to a different culture, and integrating that with your own way of working takes time.”
The highlight of Hamilton’s season so far came with his third-place finish in China, marking the 203rd podium of his career and his first in Ferrari colors. The moment carried added significance as he shared the podium with Kimi Antonelli, who claimed his maiden victory, and former Mercedes team-mate George Russell.
Hamilton also reflected on the emotional value of the result, particularly given the support he received from Ferrari during his difficult debut season.
“The team have been amazing over the past year, especially in the garage. The support has been immense,” he said.
“Last season, we often fell short, and I felt like I wasn’t delivering for the team. But they always stayed positive and supportive, saying ‘next time’.”
“To finally get that podium and see how happy everyone was—it really meant a lot. It motivates me to keep pushing and building with the team.”
Despite the improved form, Hamilton acknowledged that criticism has continued, particularly following his struggles in 2025. He noted that some of the negative commentary comes from individuals he believes lack comparable achievements.
“When you have difficult years, there are always questions,” Hamilton said.
“I’ve seen certain individuals, who haven’t achieved what I have, continue to speak negatively—even now.”
However, Hamilton views his strong start to 2026 as a clear response to those doubts, underlining his continued ability to compete at the front of the grid.
“It felt great to come into this season strong and show that I still have what it takes to compete at the front,” he added.
With Ferrari maintaining early momentum, attention now turns to the upcoming rounds as Hamilton and the Scuderia aim to sustain their competitive form in the 2026 championship fight.
