Formula 1, Sportrik Media - Lewis Hamilton has declared he is “not going anywhere” after concluding 2026 pre-season testing with Scuderia Ferrari, following a challenging debut campaign with the Italian team.
The seven-time world champion admitted he briefly “forgot who I was” during his first season in red, which marked the most difficult year of his Formula 1 career. For the first time across a full 24-round season, Hamilton failed to secure a podium finish, prompting widespread scrutiny over both his performances and public demeanour.
Several high-profile figures within motorsport openly questioned his future, with some suggesting retirement. However, Hamilton has remained committed as Formula 1 enters a new chassis and power unit regulation cycle in 2026. Early indications from testing suggest Ferrari’s SF-26 provides a competitive platform heading into the new season.
“That’s a wrap on testing. It’s inspiring to watch a team pull out all the stops to build a car,” Hamilton wrote on social media.
“It’s the most fascinating part of this job for me. Everything is built from scratch and designed and redesigned over and over. And then there are only a few of us who get to put that machine to the test. That feeling never gets old.”
He also expressed gratitude to the team’s factory staff in Maranello for their efforts during development.
“I want to say a huge thank you to everyone in the team back at the factory for the hard work to get to this point. I am truly grateful.”
“I love this job so much and I love working with my team and driving for the fans. I’m incredibly lucky to be able to do what I do, and I’m excited for the season ahead.”
Addressing last year’s lacklustre results directly, Hamilton emphasised that he has mentally reset ahead of his 20th Formula 1 campaign.
“I’m re-set and refreshed. I’m not going anywhere, so stick with me.”
“For a moment, I forgot who I was, but thanks to you and your support you’re not going to see that mindset again.”
“I know what needs to be done. This is going to be one hell of a season. I’ve given everything to be here today.”
With a new technical era underway and Ferrari showing early promise in testing, the 2026 season represents a pivotal opportunity for Hamilton to reassert himself at the front of the grid.
